Maybe you are thinking about or have started writing your story or how-to-book. Have you thought about the next step after it leaves the editor? I have my photos gathered and in the hands of someone to format and do a layout of the pictures with the text for my cookbook. I’m sharing these “Writing Tips” that cover steps for organizing your pages to deliver to the interior book designer as part of my writing journey.
The purpose of an interior design for your manuscript is so that you have professionally formatted text in your book. The size of the page book I requested is 8.5 x 8.5 with 0.5 margins.π
Before contacting the designer I made sure I organized my manuscript from cover to cover in a Microsoft Word document. This makes it easier for them to visualize the layout of your book. First, I had a placeholder for the book cover with a picture of a few recipes, my book title (Cooking with Retha), and my name. Next is the copyright page, title page, table of content with the list of recipes. I then wrote an Introduction to give the reader an overview of each category listed in the book and my story of how I got started with making the various recipes. **Fun fact, I started cooking when I was about 12 years old and rotated with my sister so dinner was done and we could have mealtime together when my parents arrived home from work.**π©πΎβπ³
Following the introduction comes the delicious mouth-watering pictures along with the ingredients and instructions. The book concludes with a book summary on the back cover and a brief bio about the author. βπΎ ππ
